CBD Cheat Sheet: Your SKIN

CBA or Cannabidiol is a stable and non-toxic compound that is derived from hemp. It is used instead of THC as a better and healthier alternative as the CBD oil has been used for ages for its many therapeutic effects. It was used to relieve patients of pain, their insomnia, and patients with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Further studies have also found its many uses for when it is applied on the skin relieving many patients of skin conditions.

As the CBD receptors are present in the brain and many parts of the body, in a similar fashion they are also present on the skin. For that scientists are now trying to figure out more ways in which the CBD oil can be used and many different infusions that could cure different skin conditions which somehow mean that soon CBD would be used in skincare brands and might revolutionize the whole cosmetic and skincare industry.

According to a study carried out in Britain, CBD reduces the keratin 10mRNA through the CB1 receptor system that can cure many skin diseases.

Another study later that year stated the role of endocannabinoid in its reaction against a type of skin cancer known as cutaneous melanoma. It showed that AEA induces cytotoxic effects in the melanoma cells. It all carries out through a complex mechanism comprising of the synthesis of COX-2 and LOX products that are all activated ultimately by CB1.

Pruritus is another condition of the skin where it gets extremely itchy and blisters form on top of it from scratch. A study was conducted in which 14 out of total 22 patients got immediate positive effects from CBD and their pruritus was healed after regular use, which means that CBD might not affect on ALL skin types so scientists are still making many different infusions and modifications to help CBD oil work for all skin types.

Dermatitis is a severe inflammation of the skin by which thousands of people are affected. The study on dermatitis leads to the believe that it forms immunity on the skin thereby forming a protective layer to stop a contact infection spread by dermatitis; therefore, CBD is very helpful in healing and stopping an infectious spread by contact of dermatitis.

The CBD through its endocannabinoid system not only protects the skin from infectious skin diseases but it also regulates different functions inside the body to check for proper cell proliferation, the balance of hormones, the survival and health of the cells as well.

CBD is also used in the treatment of psoriasis by acting through a non-CBA/CB2 dependent mechanism to stop the proliferation of the keratinocytes and to therapeutically help heal the condition and inflammation. CBD is now being infused with different acids that are anti-aging and antioxidants as they help deplete the body of harmful oxygen radicals, not only that but also help the cells to regrow and heal. It makes the skin more elastic, more plump and healthy looking by maintaining a balance between cell proliferation and repair.

CBD or Cannabidiol is a component of the cannabis plant that contains within itself many hidden therapeutic properties. This non-toxic version of the CBD does not let the user get euphoric or in simpler words, “high”. Research has found that CBD can be used to treat or reduce the effects of many diseases and their symptoms like diabetes, Crohn’s disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, anxiety, PTSD, MS and many more.

One of its very renowned functions is its therapeutic use for the treatment of glaucoma which is formed due to increased pressure in the eye and causes severe damage to the optic nerve that if left untreated may lead to irreversible blindness.

The main gist of the disease is the glutamate acts on the neurons and destroys their ganglionic cells. Cannabinoids in the CBD is known to protect the neuron and prevent ganglionic cell death and to test out this very theory, a detailed experiment was done to assess if CBD really does relieve the necrosis of the ganglionic cells of the optic nerve.

Six patients were administered with sublingual glaucoma doses of 5mg, 20 mg, and 40 mg. two hours later the patients were checked upon for results;

Patients that had received a dosage of 5 mg, their intraocular pressure was reduced but returned to its baseline after 4 hours.

Patients that were given 20 mg showed no results whatsoever

Patients who were administered 40mg doses, however, showed an alarming increase in the intraocular pressure.

So how can CBD help glaucoma?

After many studies and conducted experiments it was found that the right dose reduces the pressure in the eyes and consequently increases the heart rate and as heart rate increases, the intraocular pressure further decreases. Another interesting discovery was that CBD effects were more promising and effective in patients that were suffering from hypertension or cardiovascular diseases. It is very important for a patient with hypertension to get their intraocular pressure and glaucoma checked because there are really no sudden symptoms that can be distinguished or that are diagnosable easily without detailed tests and people generally notice that they are suffering from glaucoma as soon as they are hit with the most extreme or severe of glaucoma end results, like partial or total blindness and by then it is usually too late.

Usually, patients suffering from glaucoma also suffer from multiple other diseases and CBD does happen to be a multifactorial drug. It is very beneficial in its functions to act as an anti-inflammatory drug that decreases the painful effects of neuropathic pains. It also acts as a sleep-inducing drug and can be used by patients with insomnia or patients who are suffering from anxiety, ulcers, and seizures. So if a patient has glaucoma and is suffering from seizures or insomnia or ulcers, the drug is a very healthy and safe choice.

Before visiting your physician, research so you know all options and ways in which the drug can help you and feel free to ask questions before you add CBD to your list of medications.

CBD AND POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER

Life can come wrapped with many unexpected turns and surprises that may leave a scar on us for as long as we live. Every person is built differently and so their ability to handle or deal with situations is different as well. Certain tragedies and traumatic events get embedded in their memory which makes their daily life a living hell and alters how they think, behaves or interact with people around them, this is known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and it is most common in veterans who have witnessed gruesome events or people who have been witnesses or survivors of some of the most disastrous occasions. Though there are many treatment methods that claim to help patients, are expensive and not to mention sometimes ineffective so as a hopeful last straw the CBD oil was used as an alternative.

Extraction of CBD oil

There are many useful ways in which the oil from the cannabis plant can be extracted and used but the only method that helps extract the purest form of CBD is with the carbon dioxide extraction where carbon dioxide is applied at a high pressure but low temperatures to extract the oil and it requires an immense level of precision and professional alertness.

Benefits of the CBD oil for PTSD

The oil targets stress levels and it reduces them quite instantly and lessens the symptoms of depression and anxiety along with PTSD. The cannabinoids block the receptors that trigger a PTSD episode and promote a more relaxing effect thereby influencing sleep hormones to regulate in the bloodstream to calm your body. Apart from making the body calmer it also blocks the parts of your brain that bring about reconsolidation memory or more commonly known as, flashbacks and improve the brains responses to those flashbacks thereby gradually making your PTSD episodes less severe. The oil has been used by many patients including veterans and doctors who treat patients in their facilities and CBD has gotten fairly positive feedback from everywhere. The effect of CBD on the body and how long it takes mainly depends on the person and can vary in many individuals but normally on average it takes from 20 to 40 minutes for the effects of CBD to properly kick in. As the oil does not contain any THC, there won’t be any euphoric experiences lead to hallucinations or a feeling of “getting high” so it is safe to use without causing any discomfort.

In order to get maximum results and to use this properly, shake the bottle of the oil properly. It is very important because sometimes the extracts settle on the bottom but as you shake, they blend into the formula pretty quickly. So shake well before you apply. Next, for oral use, read the instructions on the back of the bottle as some bottles come with droppers and some don’t. once you’ve poured in some of the oil under your tongue, let it sit there as absorption is fastest from under the tongue.

MCT Oil

Firstly I would like to thank Ciitech and Clifton Flack for asking me to write a guest Blog upon their very popular website.

MCT oil or medium-chain triglycerides (MCT’s) are unique fatty acids that are found naturally in coconut and palm oils.

Let us get this right from the start; MCT Oil is probably the best fatty acid you can ever take.  Before listing the numerous benefits of MCT oil and how I use it every day, I wish to discuss vaping with you, especially when you vape CBD for health and wellbeing.

MCT VAPE E-LIQUID
MCT is so versatile that it can very easily be used as a replacement for the PG/VG e-liquid that you will find in the majority of vape fluids out there. There is a growing community of people that vape but have long term concerns over bringing PG down into the lungs. Although there aren’t any studies at the moment that say PG is bad, I think we should remember that it is a petroleum by-product (Crude Oil) and is in the vape market to give a ‘throat hit’ similar to that experienced when smoking tobacco.

Being ‘Mindful’ when we are looking after our health surely means that we should be looking for a 100% natural alternative? Well, that will be MCT OIL then! That is my opinion anyway.

I do still vape CBD using a PG/VG combination, with great results, however, I’m certainly not going to do it over a long period and do seek alternatives, so that is why I think it important to raise the awareness of MCT Oil. When demand grows, companies will have no choice but to develop MCT based e-liquids, especially for CBD, so let’s hope that happens sooner rather than later.

MCT USAGE IDEAS
In our family, my wife and I take MCT Oil every day as part of a health & wellbeing regime, delivering improved thinking (focus) along with increased energy. Doesn’t everyone want that?

Sometimes I have those times when the energy seems to leave my body or when I get brain fog (which can be a regular event living alongside MS) so I will take an extra half tablespoon of the oil and I then know it will see me through.

DAILY DOSING
Well for me it is 3 tablespoons per day – I tend to try and take them all in the AM, around 60 minutes apart and on the whole, this regularly sees me through the day.

Now consider I am permanently sat on my backside in a wheelchair so I 100% believe that the process of taking MCT really does help me maintain a decent weight by suppressing hunger cravings and improving my digestion. Yes, I still eat chocolate etc, every now and again, but the BIG difference is that I never pile weight on and working alongside the power of CBD my body’s digestive systems must be in a state of Homeostasis where the odd burger/chocolate/pizza never affects me.

I also do intermittent fasting (just come off a 72hr) as through all my research from watching/listening & reading I really want to feed my brain cells with the very best energy source (Ketones) that are going to keep me away from diseases such as diabetes and Alzheimer’s.

Because glucose and insulin mechanisms in the brain are so impaired by the time someone enters into the dementia stages, with a strong link with diabetes, the neuroprotectant effects of a Ketogenic diet working with MCT oil could slow or even reverse symptoms.

When the body struggles to produce insulin it cannot produce the Glucose from the blood to feed the brain and body cells. When this happens, especially in the brain nerve cells, that’s when we get a reduction in capability that leads the nerve cells to die and so the brain shrinks.

Fasting on a Ketogenic diet. Fasting is the natural way to remove toxins from the body, bring it back into balance and reset the Immune system. Maybe not 72hrs all the time but definitely 48hrs OR, I do regular Intermittent fasting, which is eating for 6 hours and then fasting for the other 18. By combining this kind of regime with MCT Oil you will find it is very easy!

By using MCT you can get the body starting to produce Ketones for energy instead of sugar and glucose, so combining a good quality MCT Oil is paramount to giving your body the tools it needs to heal.

MAJOR BENEFIT
MCT Oil is a major factor in helping the process of your body to create Ketones for energy and for greater brain focus.

Any cancer cells cannot effectively use Ketone bodies as a source of energy and therefore research says that Ketones slow the proliferation of tumor cells and may also halt metastasis! I will mention the MCT brand we use at the end of this blog post.

My wife probably takes around 1 tablespoon, not enough, in my opinion, I will get her to increase, well if she lets me 😉 but I’m confident this will happen, especially when I inform her of the weight-loss powers MCT has! Ketones are able to penetrate the blood/brain barrier meaning the brain cells are fuelled with a clean energy source that will last for hours along with clearer thinking.

CAN I TAKE TOO MUCH MCT OIL?

If taking MCT Oil for the first time you should take 1 teaspoon to begin with, per day, and be mindful of how your body is reacting. Should there be no side effects then there’s NO reason why you can’t increase, just take it steady and go up by 1 teaspoon at a time.

3 Teaspoons = 1 Tablespoon

MCT IS NOT dangerous but if too much is taken then the bodies digestive system may struggle to deal with it all which could lead to stomach cramps, diarrhea, and sickness but this will be avoided if you just take it steady and build up slowly.

This is all from my personal journey using MCT and from looking after clients who have specific goals they wish to achieve.

WOW… what a few days we just had in London. CiiTECH was among 6 other CBD companies showcasing at the 22 year old and Europe’s largest trade expo for the health and wellness sector.

We presented our Israeli developed products loud and proud… not an ounce of BDS or animosity towards us. We explained continuously the role of Israel and specifically Professor Mechoulam in the understanding of Cannabis, only positive shock, and awe.

Here’s the headline:

Over 300,000 people in the UK now using ‘medical’ cannabis and not a single gov’t reform required… how’s that for a country on the fringe of becoming a cannabinoid superpower!

This is something that’s been brewing for the last 18 months.  Since the MHRA announced they now accept the medicinal value of CBD and would see it regulated as a food supplement, the UK has been proving itself worthy of the mantel ‘A Dark Horse in the Cannabis Space’

There are now over 150 CBD sellers cramped in the UK market serving over 300,000 users domestically and likely the same again that order legal British cannabis from overseas.

Whilst America falters with DEA rulings on CBD and consistent scandals surrounding the quality of products available, the UK has been stealing a lead.  The now well established Cannabis Trades Association has been all but given the mandate by the MHRA to regulate its members ensuring compliance and legality with all ‘existing’ EU and UK laws.

And this is where and why the UK is stealing the March.  Not a single sentence of legislation has been written, discussed or voted upon in Parliament.

  • Hemp is grown under the auspice of ‘agriculture’ in the EU…it’s legal
  • CBD is sold as a food supplement for which there are ample directives and guidelines
  • Marketing of medications & therapeutics have decades old British guidelines and protocols.

The great anomaly of the industry is that cannabis knowledge began in Israel, the most advanced and only existing gov’t mandated cannabis patient program is in Israel.  It’s no surprise we at CiiTECH choose to leverage the countries knowledge and experience to develop our ranges of CBD.

However, our products remain illegal and unavailable in Israel.  Whilst in and from the UK we’re able to supply unrestrained, customers are able to choose without ministry interference and make choices and decisions without the need for medical professionals who don’t have the answers.

Whilst many countries stutter towards medical cannabis reforms that only succeed in shutting down free access to CBD, the UK is running forward supplying world-class products to the world.

Back to the event, the Natural & Organic Product Expo.  It’s been running for 22 years, it’s largest of it’s kind and a veritable who’s who of the vitamin, minerals and alternative healthcare industries.  Of 700 exhibitors at least 7 had CBD products on offer.  Our booth location close to our industry compatriots was like a magnet for interested retailers and distributors.  Thousands came to the event to learn more about this trending topic, we’re on hand to help explain why it’s trending and how we can help them leverage the power of CBD for their own businesses.

BDS, what BDS?  we generally keep quiet about our Israel roots in the UK, however, we chose to be clear and transparent at the event.  After-all with over 150 competitors, it ‘s important to convey why CiiTECH products are most likely to be the most trustworthy in the market.

So… a toast to Israel for it’s continued contribution to the revealing of cannabis knowledge.

a toast to the UK for showing what can be done without the need for costly, complex regulation

a toast to the CiiTECH team for making it such a fun and productive few days.

Have you ever wondered how CBD oil works? The oil delivers its therapeutic benefits by interacting with the endocannabinoid system. The system regulates key aspects of human biology to maintain health and well-being.

To understand the endocannabinoid system, you should know about homeostasis. It is the concept in which most biological systems are controlled actively to maintain conditions within a specific range. The body needs to satisfy specific conditions to maintain maximum performance. One of the most important molecular systems of the body is the endocannabinoid system because it helps keep the cells in their optimal zone.

endocannabinoid-system_UK_CBD

Key Elements of the Endocannabinoid System

Humans share the endocannabinoid system with all vertebrate species. The system plays a similar role in all the species because they have the same components, which are cannabinoid receptors, endocannabinoids, and metabolic enzymes.

Cannabinoid Receptors

You can find the cannabinoid receptors on the cell’s surface that allows it to monitor the conditions outside of the cell. They send the information about conditions to the cell that will make it react appropriately.

The two major cannabinoid receptors are CB1 and CB2. They are the fine cannabinoid receptors discovered by researchers. CB1 is abundant in the brain, and they interact with THC that makes people high. CB2 is more abundant found outside the nervous system. Take note that you can find both cannabinoid receptors throughout the body.

Endocannabinoids

The human body naturally produces endocannabinoids. They are molecules that bind to and activate the receptors. The two major endocannabinoids are 2-AG and anandamide. They are made from molecules similar to fat within the membranes of the cell. They are also synthesised on demand, instead of being packaged and stored for future use.

Metabolic Enzymes

Metabolic enzymes destroy the endocannabinoids once the cells already used them. MAGI breaks down the 2-AG endocannabinoids, while the FAAH destroys the anandamide. The enzymes ensure that the cells used the endocannabinoids when needed and destroy them when they are no longer required. This is the difference between endocannabinoids and other molecular signals in the human body. Other neurotransmitters and hormones persist for minutes or are packaged and stored for future use.

You can find the three key elements of the endocannabinoid system within all the major systems of the human body. When something is not right within the cells, the three components get to action to make things right again.

Regulation of Inflammation

One of the most popular uses of CBD oil is to treat inflammations. Inflammation is a natural reaction of the immune system in response to physical damage or infection. The role of endocannabinoids is to limit or suppress the inflammatory signals of the immune system. By preventing excessive inflammation, the cells get back to their optimum condition faster.

As you can see, the endocannabinoid system plays an important role in making sure that the cells and the systems stay in their optimal zone. The system deploys its key elements when and where the body needs them. The endocannabinoid system is a complex one that is useful in ensuring the overall wellness of the body.

HOW CBD BINDS TO THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM

Up to 1992, the endogenous cannabinoid system remained elusive to scientists. While trying to explain how marijuana produces psychoactive effects, they discovered the system present in most mammals.

Simply put, it is a communication system, with receptors and endocannabinoids found throughout the body: in the organs, brains, immune cells, and glands. Its action thus affects virtually all organs and systems. It can affect how you feel, react, move, sleep, and more. Note that the body produces its own cannabinoids, which are similar to CBC or THC.

Once they interact with the EC system, essential body functions are regulated. For instance, recreational users of cannabis have an increased appetite after use; it is caused by the introduction of cannabinoids, which affect the physiological response. Remember that the EC system is all over the body. That is why cannabis users can experience short-term memory loss and lack of coordination.  So how does CBD work in the body? How do CBD cannabinoids bind to the EC system?

How Endocannabinoids Work Uniquely from Other Neurotransmitters

The EC system is made mainly of neurons surrounded by an aqueous solution. However, they conduct synaptic signals differently. Brain cells will relay messages to and from the body by sending chemical messages through neurotransmitters such as GABA or glutamate. The chemicals released from one pre-synaptic cell journey through the synapse, which is just a small gap. The chemical reaches the post-synaptic cells, which triggers the production of more chemical messages spurring a set of events.

CBD does not interact with the CB1 or CBD 2 receptors directly. It will interact with the post-synaptic neurons. They respond by producing cannabinoids, which move back to the pre-synaptic neurons. Here, they will interact by attaching to the cannabinoid receptors CB1 or CB2. Now think about it. CBD is unlike other neurotransmitters. It controls the presynaptic neurons and affects how messages are relayed.

Confirming what most already knew, the British media have been drooling over controversial national health-food chain Holland & Barrett selling CBD oil since last month.

Truth is they’ve been successfully selling for over 6 months…

The Cannabis Trades Association UK shows that there are now 250,000 users of CBD Oil across the UK, which is up from the 125,000 recorded this time last year.

Government advisers made it legal to buy CBD oil in 2016 after they admitted that it has a ‘restoring, correcting or modifying’ effect on humans.

However, the oils legal status has confused thousands across England and Wales, after the MHRA back-tracked on its position just weeks after.

Suppliers now have to obtain a license to sell it as a medicine, following the decision in October two years ago – but some weave the strict rules.

Manufacturers are able to avoid regulation by selling it as a food supplement – ignoring the lengthy process of gaining a medicinal license.

Bio-Availability is quite simply the proportion of a drug or other substance that enters the circulation when introduced into the body and so is able to have an active effect.

CBD can be consumed in various forms such as; vape oils, capsules, edibles, and tincture forms. The different options make this a truly versatile product when the potential uses are almost limitless.

The method will determine the distribution of the compound in the system and the strength. It can also affect the bio-availability of the compound. The bio-availability being the percentage of the compound that is being absorbed by our bloodstream after being processed by the system.

Maximising CBD Bio-Availability

Contingent upon the manner of consumption of CBD, the substance will determine how much of it will be absorbed and utilised by our system. You need to know the bio-availability of the CBD product to determine the right choice for you.

Topical CBD Bio-Availability

Humans have been using the extracts of plants to relieve aches and pain effectively and naturally since ancient times. By utilising this traditional practice and mixing it with modern science, they were able to develop CBD in topical form. Rather than ingesting the product, you will be applying it on the surface of your skin. This is a great solution for new users of medical marijuana. You will be able to experience the therapeutic effect of the product but without the psychoactive effect. This has the lowest form of bio-availability.

Oral CBD Bio-Availability

Consuming marijuana in oral form may include oil, edibles, and capsules. It is a popular option due to its ease-of-use. When we consume the CBD orally, it will pass through our digestive tract and the substance will circulate on our liver. The bio-availability will be reduced during the phase of the first-pass metabolism. The substance will be metabolised by our digestive system that will reduce the CBD that will circulate on our bloodstream. The average bio-availability of consuming the substance orally is around 4%-20%.

Sublingual CBD Bio-Availability

The sublingual CBD may include sprays, lozenges, concentrates, and tinctures. When we consumed the CBD in this manner, the substance will be absorbed by our mucous membrane. The capillaries will diffuse this substance that will eventually be directed to our bloodstream. With this method, the first-pass metabolism will be bypassed. This will lead to a higher level of bio-availability compared to oral consumption.

Inhalation CBD Bio-Availability

Some people use the vaporising method by inhaling it in the form of the vape oil using a vape pen. It is a relaxing method of consuming CBD without the adverse side effects of smoking. In this method, the substance will enter our system by passing through our lungs. The CBD will then move to the walls of our alveolar that will lead directly to our bloodstream. According to the study, the bio-availability of vaporising is around 56%. This means that it has a higher bio-availability compared to sublingual and oral consumption.

With regards to the bio-availability, the inhalation and sublingual consumption are the most effective when delivering the compound of CBD to our bloodstream. After reading the article, you probably have an idea of which product will suit your needs.

Ingested CBD Bio-Availability

For an edible to work, it has to first pass through the body’s primary detox organ, the liver. Here’s what happens in the liver when you eat edibles.

Something different happens when you eat cannabis-infused goods. Before the psychoactive effects kick in, an edible treat has to pass through the entire digestive system.

Anal CBD Bio-Availability

Medication from a rectal suppository tends to work quickly. This is because the suppository melts inside the body and is absorbed directly into the bloodstream.

The ancient Egyptians used hemp (cannabis) in suppositories for relieving the pain of hemorrhoids.

The Scientist” is a documentary that traces the story of Nobel Prize nominee Dr. Mechoulam from his early days……as a child of the Holocaust in Bulgaria, through his immigration to Israel and his career as the chief investigator into the chemistry and biology of the world’s most misunderstood plant. Dr. Mechoulam ascertained that THC interacts with the largest receptor system in the human body, the endocannabinoid system (ECS).

Fifty-two years ago Professor Raphael Mechoulam was on a bus carrying 5 kilos of hashish in his bag to his laboratory at the Weitzmann Institute in Rehovot. That bus ride turned out to be a historic one, as Mechoulam used that hashish to discover the psychoactive component in marijuana, THC. Twenty years after that groundbreaking finding, Mechoulam ascertained that THC and many of the other components in the plant interact with the largest receptor system in the human body, the endocannabinoid system. And shortly after that, he learned that the human brain produces its very own marijuana – a chemical that they named anandamide after the Sanskrit word ananda, “bliss.”

Though still unknown to most researchers, medical professionals and laymen because of the worldwide prohibition of marijuana, the importance of this endocannabinoid system can’t be overstated. this system is thought to be involved in every disease state and it is one reason that cannabis treats so many varied illnesses. Mechoulam has been doggedly investigating this compound longer and more intensively than any other scientist.

To date, he has unearthed cannabis’s helpful role in treating illnesses as well as its impact on other functions that govern human health, such as the rapidity with which an infant bonds with his mother. He is universally acknowledged as the “father of cannabinoid medicine.” Yet despite these accolades, Mechoulam’s name isn’t known outside of a small group of researchers.

While the use of cannabidiol, is gaining a lot of traction in the human realm, for approximately one hundred years, CBD hemp oil has played a role in the treatment of horses. Just like in humans, there are many uses and health benefits associated with cannabidiol (CBD). Most are similar in both mammals. In fact, dogs and cats can derive the same benefits.

For many years, it’s the racehorses, old and sickly horses that have benefited most from CBD hemp oil. Cannabidiol keeps racehorses in prime shape for competitions. Trainers still use it to accelerate the healing of cracked hooves. Cannabidiol oil is also rubbed on the surfaces once the harness and saddles are removed. In all horses, the oil delivers numerous benefits; some outlined below.

What Reactions Does CBD Hemp Oil Cause in Horses?

The endocannabinoid system, found in horses, humans and other mammals, contains CB1 and CB2 receptors. On interaction with cannabinoids such as CBD and THC, they regulate physiological processes in the body such as the immune response, inflammation development, memory functioning, pain regulation, moods, appetite and more.

For instance, when Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) interacts with CB1 receptors, “high” results, hence it is considered a psychoactive substance (mind-altering).  On the other hand, the effects of CBD oil from the hemp plant –a variety of Cannabis sativa– are non-psychoactive. It regulates inflammations, pain response, anxiety, and more. The following positive effects result in the following uses:

Inflammation Control and Pain Reduction

Horses are prone to injuries such as fractures, sprains, and damaged hooves. Some may suffer from Laminitis, a painful inflammation condition. Cannabidiol rich oil offers pain relief for the horses, who may suffer for long periods, crippling them and in some cases resulting in death.

Anxiety and Stress Reduction

Animals experience stress too. Horses led busy lives full of ups and downs and may become anxious. CBD can help keep them calm, even before big races. It also clears their minds offering relief from stress, which left untreated causes depression. From usage, horses have been observed to become playful after the consumption of the oil.

Colon and Digestive Health

Most horses experience bloating, indigestion, heartburn as well as other grave gut problems such as ulcers. The use of CBD to relieve these symptoms is probably its most important application. Cannabidiol can reduce inflammations in the digestive tract caused by a grain-rich diet.  It can even tackle allergies usually caused by the excessive response of the immune system to harmless pathogens.

Other Uses: Nutritional Benefits

A relatively recent use of the CBD hemp oil is in equine diets. The oil obtained from crushed seeds has a rich nutrient profile. It contains vitamins such as A, D, E, and K, as well as fatty acids, Omega-3 & Omega-6. The oil has GLA acid that aids establish the right ratio of these fatty acids. The use of the oil in grain-rich diets also helps in mitigation of the harm caused by the cereals in the gut.

How CBD can be Administered to Horses

It is orally administered using droppers or dose syringes directly to the tongue. Alternatively, it is mix with feeds. Finally, there are numerous studies conducted on CBD use, and all have found it free from side effects. Its use in horses is just the start of what is possible.

Trending in 2017 is CBD Water for Horses…
